Sport in Lewes

The leisure centre, the town's clubs and pitches, an outdoor pool from 1861 and a football club that made history.

Lewes is a small town with a lot of sport packed into it: a leisure centre with a pool and an athletics track, clubs for football, cricket, bowls, hockey and tennis, a golf course on the Downs, and one of the oldest outdoor pools in the country. Every place below is checked each week against current sources, with a pin on the map. Opening times, memberships and prices change, so check with the club or centre before you go.

Watch

Lewes FC play at the Dripping Pan, a ground a few minutes' walk from the station. In 2017 the club became the first professional or semi-professional football club in the world to pay its women's and men's teams equally. Fixtures and tickets are on the club's own website.

Swim

The Pells Pool, opened in 1861, is an outdoor freshwater pool on the north side of town, open in the warmer months. For swimming all year round there is the pool at Lewes Leisure Centre.

Walk and ride

The South Downs National Park surrounds the town, and the South Downs Way long-distance path runs along the hills nearby. Our map shows paths, parks and green spaces in and around Lewes.
