Lewes community

These links take you straight to the organisations themselves, so you always get their latest information. We do not copy posts from community groups; follow the links to join the conversation.

Councils and public services

Lewes has three layers of local government, and it is not always obvious which one does what.

• Lewes Town Council: town councillors and meetings, the All Saints Centre, and civic notices.
• Lewes District Council: bins and recycling, planning, housing, licensing and councillors.
• East Sussex County Council: roads, libraries, schools, social care and councillors.
• Find your MP: UK Parliament's search for the current MP for Lewes.

Not sure where to start? Bins, recycling and planning go to the district council. Potholes and other problems with roads go to the county council.

Visitor information

• Visit Lewes: the official visitor guide, with attractions, food and drink, walking trails and maps.
• Visit Lewes what's on: exhibitions, fairs, markets, music, film, walks and sport. Many of these also appear in our events calendar.

Business

• Lewes Chamber of Commerce: founded in 1935, the town's business association, for shops, trades and professional firms of every size, with a members directory.

Community groups

These Facebook groups are run by local people. Each has its own rules; please read them before posting.

• Lewes Present: news, questions and conversation about Lewes today.
• Lewes Past: photos and memories of the town's history.
